Championing a public health approach to  reducing  the number of children in care through social work with children and families.

Research how a public health approach can reduce the numbers of children in care.

This website is a research resource for all those interested in policy, and how it affects children

and families. Each page has links to dozens of articles including research on child protection, research on children in care, research on parents with mental health difficulties, research on adoption, research on family support and research on children in care.

If you are interested in the well-being of children, in reducing the need for care, in public heatlh, social policy or social work, this website is for you. It is time for change. Placing thousands of children in care is not a solution. It

has only ever worked for a minority.

As Lord Laming said -

'The fact that in England around 80 children die each year from abuse or neglect, and that this figure has remained relatively constant over more than 30 years, is shocking'.

If  placing more and more children in care does not demonstrably reduce the incidence of abuse or infanticide, it is time to radically reduce the number of children in care and to look at a different public health approach to social work with children and families.

'Child Protection - A Public Health Approach' by Charlotte Ritchie is available as an ebook or paperback via Amazon
